Creating an IWRM action plan that is both inclusive of diverse stakeholder input and easily actionable may seem like an impossible task. However, succeeding in this balancing act between complexity and actionability is key to achieving SDG 6.5 and other water-related targets.

For this reason, the GWP (Global Water Partnership), in consultation with UNEP-DHI and Cap-Net UNDP, developed the SDG 6.5.1 IWRM Action Planning course. Based on real-life experiences gained by the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, the course provides participants with a step-by-step guide on how to successfully roll out of a IWRM Action Plan.

By the end of the course, participants will have an in depth understanding of the content and scope of an IWRM Action Plan. They will have learned how to collect and develop baseline materials, acquired a set of skills and methodologies for preparing and implementing participatory consultation processes, and will be able to implement the necessary steps and instruments to enhance the sustainability and uptake of the Action Plan.

The course is aimed at anyone involved in the making of national IWRM action plans; be it civil servants in water-related ministries, representatives of intergovernmental organizations, or private consultants. It is self-paced, customizable, and free of charge.
