Global SDG 6 survey: Has SDG 6 made any difference?

To support the  development of the 2026 SDG 6 Synthesis Report on Water and Sanitation, UN-Water is conducting a worldwide stakeholder consultation from October to December 2025. This process invites input from governments, civil society, academia, businesses, and other groups through an online survey and virtual meetings.

This report represents the UN system’s shared contribution to the 2026 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), focusing on advancing water and sanitation within the global development agenda.

It assesses the influence of a globally recognized goal on progress at national and international levels and explores how the SDG 6 framework has fostered more integrated, inclusive, and action-oriented policy discussions across sectors and governance levels.

Looking ahead, the report outlines a unified vision for strengthening the role of water and sanitation in sustainable development through 2030 and beyond.

In the SDG 6 global survey, participants are encouraged to share their experiences with SDG 6, including how it has influenced their work, and to offer insights on the future of water and sanitation in the post-2030 development landscape.

Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the 10-minute consultation. The survey is available in all 6 UN languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish):
