UNEP-DHI is contributing to the global monitoring and reporting on the SDG indicator 6.6.1 producing the first of kind global assessment of the status and change of wetlands. As part of this ongoing work, earth observation data are used to track changes in the state of different types of water-related ecosystems over time. This information can be used as the starting point for appropriate action.

The results of the analysis, along with other data, are available via the Freshwater Ecosystems Explorer app. The data available via app will be used by countries to track national progress towards achieving SDG target 6.6 and represent the global baseline for year 2020.
