On April 27th, the Global Water Partnership (GWP), in collaboration with UNEP-DHI, held a Learning Exchange seminar focusing on pathways to accelerate Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) implementation in order to achieve the SDG6 target. The Learning Exchange was convened on behalf of the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme.
The event was attended by over 150 participants, including SDG 6.5.1 national focal points, national and sub-national government officials, facilitators of IWRM processes, development partners and UN country directors. During the learning exchange, participants identified and discussed barriers for IWRM implementation and shared their experiences on how to accelerate IWRM implementation. Government officials from three countries (Vietnam, Guatemala and Ghana) also shared their insights on the process of formulating national action plans.
The conclusions from these exchanges stressed the vital need to ramp-up the pace of IWRM implementation through multistakeholder and cross-sectoral engagement on national and subnational scales, as well as the importance of focusing on shared long-term goals.
