UNEP and Nature Based Solutions

Since the Climate Action Summit in September 2019, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has been placed as the leading agency on Nature Based Solutions.  Its mandate includes supporting a coordinated global implementation effort, building on the outcomes of the NBS manifesto and helping unlock the full potential of nature during this Decade of Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030.

UNEP’s work on Nature Based Solutions covers several critical areas such as reforestation and afforestation programmes, national ecosystem-based climate change adaptation plans and agro-ecological farming practices.  Through these interventions, UNEP engages with a range of players from small communities on the ground to the highest levels of government.
