The fourth round of global reporting on SDG 6 indicators is now underway. As part of UN Water’s Integrated Monitoring Initiative for SDG 6 (IMI-SDG6), the UNEP-DHI Centre has shared all materials for reporting on SDG indicator 6.5.1 with the Focal Points of UN Member States in the first week of March.

The 2024 WASSMO report reviews Africa’s progress on water and sanitation. Based on contributions from 45 AU Member States, it integrates data from UNEP DHI’s SDG 6.5.1 monitoring initiative and highlights key recommendations to guide the transition toward Africa Water Vision 2063.
The Asian Water Development Outlook (AWDO) 2025 by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is a comprehensive assessment of the state of water security in Asia and the Pacific. The UNEP-DHI Centre contributed insights on water governance and to country assessments for Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal, Pakistan and Tajikistan.
The Best Practices Manual for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the WAEMU Region highlights the critical need for effective water resource management to achieve sustainable development goals. It serves as a comprehensive guide for policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders, presenting key challenges and showcasing successful case studies from the region.
The report ‘Status of IWRM & Transboundary Cooperation in Central America’ reviews the status of water in six Central American countries. In addition to highlighting progress made, the report outlines key challenges and enabling factors for advancing Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and transboundary cooperation across the region.
The Preliminary Integrated Water Resources Management Action Plan 2026-2030 for Lao PDR serves as a preliminary evaluation and monitoring report on the implementation of the IWRM Action Plan 2021-2025.
The “Cambodia Climate Resilient IWRM Action Plan 2026–2030: Toward the Achievement of Agenda 2030,” is designed to advance climate-resilient, integrated, and multi-purpose water resources management.
The 2024 Progress Report on the Implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the Arab Region highlights the critical need for effective water resource management to achieve sustainable development goals. It serves as a comprehensive guide for policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders, presenting key challenges and showcasing successful case studies from the region.
This year, twelve countries are undertaking multi-stakeholder processes to answer that question as they embark on national action planning, assisted by the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, implemented by GWP in coordination with the UNEP-DHI Centre, under the leadership of UNEP.
The goal: to design actionable, investment-ready action plans that mobilise resources from a range of funding sources — including national budgets, multilateral development banks, the private sector, and bilateral funders.
