We support UNEP in monitoring and reporting on SDG 6
Progress on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) is a core objective of the UNEP-DHI Centre’s work on sustainable water management. Guided by our mission to strengthen sustainable water governance worldwide, the Centre provides technical support and capacity development across the three SDG 6 indicators for which UNEP is the custodian agency:
SDG 6.5.1 – Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)
We support sustainable water resource management at all levels by helping countries assess the status of IWRM implementation, identify gaps, and accelerate progress.
SDG 6.6.1 – Freshwater Ecosystems
We track changes in freshwater ecosystems by providing methodologies, data guidance, and global support to monitor the extent and health of lakes, rivers, wetlands, and groundwater‑dependent ecosystems.
SDG 6.3.2 – Water Quality
We support the monitoring of water quality through tools and advisory services that help countries assess the status of ambient water quality and strengthen data-driven water pollution management.
