Gender equality and social inclusion are core values in our work with implementation of integrated water resources management. Mainstreaming of gender in countries’ water resources management is a key strategy enable achievement of SDG target 6.5, but also, in the indivisible spirit of the SDGs, many other related targets, and therefore remains a central focus of our work and that of the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme.

DHI is looking for a full-time Deputy Chief Manager to support the Chief Manager in driving the UNEP-DHI Centre’s strategic development, strengthen partnerships with UNEP, secure external funding, and lead the Centre’s daily operations and impact initiatives. The Asian Water Development Outlook (AWDO) 2025 by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is a comprehensive assessment of the state of water security in Asia and the Pacific. The UNEP-DHI Centre contributed insights on water governance and to country assessments for Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal, Pakistan and Tajikistan.
The report ‘Status of IWRM & Transboundary Cooperation in Central America’ reviews the status of water in six Central American countries. In addition to highlighting progress made, the report outlines key challenges and enabling factors for advancing Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and transboundary cooperation across the region.
From 15–19 September 2025, UNEP-DHI conducted a workshop hosted by the Volta Basin authority (VBA) and GWP-WA in Lomé, Togo. This workshop was organised as part of the ReWARD project, to train stakeholders from the six countries of the Volta River Basin.
The 2025 SDG Gender Snapshot publication examines all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), presenting updated data and insights on gender equality progress and disparities, including on water resources management.
The Gender Snapshot 2025, produced by UN Women and UN DESA, highlights alarming setbacks in achieving gender equality by 2030, including under SDG 6. It warns about persistent inequalities and inadequate funding and provides both case studies about services gaps and success stories.
